We have a lovely shiny new office in the village of Tockington, which is only 5 minutes from the M4/M5 intersection but in gorgeous countryside. Visitors are most welcome & the village pub has also been re-vamped…

Facebook & Privacy Issues

I’ve been giving a few talks to small business groups recently & the one question that I’ve been asked at every Q&A is about facebook & privacy. Particularly by younger business owners who have an active personal facebook profile! If you have a facebook fan page for your business, it’s not linked to your personal profile but it’s a good idea to take a look at the privacy settings on your personal profile in any case.

The golden rule is consider everything you upload or post on the internet as public. Removing content doesn’t always get rid of it either – it may have been cached by search engines or screenshots grabbed. Just check out the wayback machine to see what I mean! http://www.archive.org/web/web.php

Once you’ve decided that posting content won’t damage your marriage/career/reputation it’s time to take advantage of the privacy settings in facebook. I was going to write a user guide but the guys at mashable have beaten me to it & written a great article here, which I suggest you read & follow.

Browser compatability

My thought of the day: Why are so many websites owned by media companies not working properly on firefox?

Makes submitting information to them via web forms very difficult! For those of you with a website, whether a DIY job or done professionally, fire up firefox, internet explorer & google chrome (as a minimum!) & check it all works as it should!

Always interesting to have a look on different monitors as well. Not exactly at the cutting edge of social media but it does need doing!
